Having my own tea shop and selling cake has always been a dream of mine. The opportunity to do it in the area where I grew up and love is like a fairy tale.
I first learnt to cook and more importantly to bake at home with my mum. We had tried and tested cakes written down in the red book, which is well-worn and covered in food stains like any good cook book should be. My granny, who was an amazing cook, first got me hooked on cake decorating. She taught me to pipe traditional cakes when I was little with plenty of constructive criticism which helped develop my eye for detail! From here it seemed only a small step to making more elaborate patisserie.
When I was deciding what to do it was my mum who asked if I really wanted to work behind a desk when I said no I would rather be a chef she supported my decision and helped me change my career. It is called “Christines” in her honour as she never got to see the shop which she helped inspire.
